In its second time on the annual listing, Burns & McDonnell ranked 26 on a list of companies that annually includes some of the most well known names in corporate America. Unplugged, the entry submitted by Olathe North High School, has been selected to be constructed as a new exhibit in Science City and winner of the secondary school division. Richardson Elementary School in the Lee's Summit School District has been named winner of the elementary school division. Each school will be awarded a $50,000 grant to supportscience technology, math and engineering education.

Site preparation for the potato processing plant in Caldwell, Idaho, is anticipated to begin in May 2012, with startup expected by spring 2014. Burns & McDonnell has been named the primary design firm. A construction management firm has not yet been chosen, but many local engineering firms will be used on the project.
